Other people's thoughts on 1984

I started reading the book a couple weeks ago so i am further along in the bookand I feel that the book is great. Orwell does an excellent job in creating a society that is believable and makes us wonder if our society is heading that way. But i want to know what other people's thoughts are on the book?

  1. even though this book goes into much grater detail it reminds me a lot of Anthem, mostly because everyone has to be greeted a cretin way, and everyone almost thinks the same way. but there is also another similarity the different branches of the government buildings, they may have different names but they basically do the same things.

  2. It reminds me alot of animal farm, the way people are manipulted and controlled. They dont do anything about it because they don't know any other way of living.

  3. First of all, I can't believe that you are already that far into the book... you're crazy. :) And second of all, I agree with you. Orwell does a great job creating a society that in some ways, so far, is already like our society today. I enjoy the story so far, which I was nervous about at first because I thought I may not understand what everything, and am very excited about getting further into the story. Just waiting for something good to happen... If that does happen (which you would know). :)

  4. I love this book! It finally gives us a real, and much darker version of life. It's not a boring book that we've been forced into reading (i've felt that way about all of our books we've had to read in English classes, except Animal Farm I wonder why....) Orwell defiantly knew and understood what he was talking about with how he viewed society! Wish I could have met this fellow!

  5. Nice connections to the other literature... it does have common themes with Anthem and Animal Farm, both of which make some pretty hefty commentary about humanity and government control.
