South America 1984

After reading through the portions of Goldstien's book it makes me wonder what the other parts of the world are like in 1984. Can all of the Americas be as bad as London? I mean, the population would be spread out much, much more. We won't ever find out, but it's cool to think about these things!

Rebels and What Not

I liked our discussion on rebels today. I think it's very interesting how there are different kind of rebels. When I look back at society it seems like rebels are often shown in a positive light. I think this is the reason everyone tries to rebel is because rebels are posed as heroes in most of our history. I'm torn though. I'd like to think that this rebel instinct is just natural.

Thinking

Well today was certainly an interesting day...
Especially since I got called out on trying to warm my hands on Sarah's neck. =P haha
Anyways...
I thought that the conversations and Free Writes were very interesting...but deeper than that I was thinking about this whole class and what I'm learning from it. I think that this class is helping me to try and think 'out of the box' or to not believe everything you see and what the government or anyone tells you. I think that in some ways when we were children we kind of taught that if an Adult tells us something...we do it, or believe what they say. Instead of questioning if those ideas could be right or wrong, we just assumed they were right. So when I read something or hear something on the News, my mind is starting to stop and think of what is being said is all truth, or if it has been changed in some way or another. For Example...Hand sanitizer that I totally spelled wrong. Anyways...it says that it fights 99.9% of bacteria, but it is also tested in a Laboratory where the bacteria is nothing like it would in a school. What they say on the bottle is true...but just not in the settings that we use it. Anyways...Now it's becoming our time to be the Adults and what are we going to do? Will we let our children believe everything an Adult tells them, or will we teach them at a young age to think for themselves? I wish that I had been introduced to ideas like these a long time ago because I think it would be a lot easier for me to analyze and look deeper into things I see and read. It's a new concept to me and I will continue trying to find new meanings in old texts and such...but yeah, I guess I just thought I'd share that. =)
Oh! And I am eating banana bread. =)
Just so you know...chewing with your front teeth is a lot of work and it doesn't work nearly as well as the ones in back. hahahhaa.... just saying.

hmmmm...

well i'm bored. so i'm blogging?
..i REALLY enjoyed class today. i mean i love ms. stariha..but sometimes a little break is nice! but that lady was CRAZY so i would def. rather have ms. s.
well, i'm gonna go work on my portfolio!

Nursery Rhyme

So I did some extensive research on the nursery rhyme thingy...

Did you know that the nursery rhyme about three blind mice

"three blind mice, three blind mice

see how they run, see how they run,

they all ran after the farmers wife

who chopped off their tails with a carving knife,

have you ever seen such a sight in your life

as three blind mice"

Actually has to do with Bloody Mary (Queen Mary 1) who had three of her political leaders conspire against her in which she promptly had them exacuted. As I read on about different nursery rhymes it said in the reading that Nursery Rhymes were the way that people 'jousted' at the government, a way of truly explaining political feelings. As I thought about this more, I thought that the current version of Nursery Rhymes are Politcal Cartoons. Children like cartoons even though they don't always truly understand the weight of what they hold, and they clearly state an opinion on something.

classtime

i really enjoyed class today... and the whole rebellion discussion. and i kind of noticed that alot of people were saying that the person who is being a "rebel" that in their mind they are doing what is right, but i have to agree with maddie that some people dont rebel because they think its right but because they want to see how far they can push the boundaries and to see how solid the rules really are. like our grade has so many good examples of rebels, the majority of us we really push teachers and the rules to see if what they say will really happen. and in a way its to find out how far we can really go without consiquences so its a way of gaining knowledge and i feel in a sense thats what some rebels are doing, they are just trying to gain knowledge and push boundaries. that doesnt mean were bad though, because i think were a great class and the majority of us are nice to eachother, we all tend to get along...but yeah id say the class of 2012 are all rebels. ha
