Op-Ed Paper? HELP!

So does anyone know if the op-ed paper rough draft is still due on friday? cause we never talked about it in class and i just read the description and i feel like if i start it now without any guidance it will be one seriously screwed up paper...so i hope the rough draft isn't still due friday...

  1. The op-ed is a short essay, so that should make you feel better. It essentially a letter to an editor. So there are TONS of examples to find online. Basically you are going to argue that the US has become like Oceania in terms of some concept of society, or will not become like Oceania in terms of a concept governing society. For instance, you might argue "Current government invasions of personal privacy have brought the United States one step closer to Orwell's fictional Oceania." Then you would compare the two societies and argue we are becoming 1984-like. OR you might suggest, "The right to peacefully assemble granted in the US Bill of Rights, will prevent Orwell's frightening prophecy from fully being realized." And then you would contrast and argue AGAINST the similarities... If course for both you should include counterarguments. :) You will have some time in the lab on Tuesday, and the class can meet in TAG tomorrow if it will help.
