So today we discussed the 'awkward' part of The Color Purple. Earlier on this week I talked to my dad about how I didn't think this book should have caused such controversy. He said he thought it was because people choose to focus on just a certain part and not the whole message. After discussing this part more in our lit groups, I just think it's amazing how authors can put details in books for certain reasons, and we can entirely miss them.
Interesting point of view. =)
ReplyDeleteIt's true though...I was going to 'try the book out' and I thought it was going to be this awful, disgusting, repulsive book.
Of course some of it was uncomfortable and disturbing...but it wasn't in there for no reason. The author had a purpose and she used those things to conceal it...if that makes sense. =P
The same thing happened during the Song of Solomon fiasco 4 years ago. People were literally passing out handouts with ONLY the profanity to gain support to ban the book
ReplyDeleteOk this is Laura P on my other blogger account for things that arent school related and such. Let's not get into this Song of Solomon thing please?
